Websites 101 - Part 2
How to
Provide Viable Content for your Site
Information is the number one reason people are searching the web. They do comparison shopping; search for how-to information; learn to replace windows and much more.
To retain these visitors and keep them coming back, you must provide the content or product that is valuable. Lack of targeted visitors may be partly to due with lack of viable information.Below are only a few tips that will help give your content a boost.
Be Professional
No matter what your topic, your content should not contain grammactial or typographical errors. This reduces your professional standing. Agreed - some typos generate visitors, but put these "typos" in ALT tags of photos, rather than in visible content.
Be Accurate
Just because it is "in print" on the Interent does not make it true. Site your sources and be very thorough in your research. You are representing yourself as an expert - so be one. Site specific sources, dates, and even provide other resources to help your visitors.
Target Your Audience
Your content should be easily understood by the visitor. If they cannot comprehend or follow your information, then you have lost a potential customer. Determine the age, and if necessary, gender of the reader and provide content pertinent to them. This pertinent information will increase your "stickyness" and ensure increased repeat visitors.
Freshness
Provide new information your visitors will enjoy. Stale sites will turn away customers. Keep up to date and fresh.
Diversify
Retail sites can benefit greatly by providing articles, consumer reports, on the products they sell. Testimonials are also a great marketing tool that bring the human aspect to your site.
Content Effectiveness
You may know your business or product better than anyone - BUT, if you are not a writer, then do not write your content. Just as you are an expert in your field - writers are in theirs. You will benefit greatly in the long run if you hire a writer.
